Craps Rules: Keep It Simple to Learn

Rushmore Casino is our top online site to learn how to play craps.

First, don’t be intimidated by a craps table. The layout alone has been known to dissuade aspiring players from participating. But, once you learn craps rules, you’ll discover that it’s a relatively simple game.

What’s more, if you stick to a simple craps betting style, you’ll enjoy some of the best odds in a casino or gaming website. Below, I’ll explain the basics of craps along with the bets you should limit yourself to in the beginning.

Learn The Craps Table Itself

The first thing you’ll notice about the table layout is that one side is a mirror of the other.

The numbers (or, points), field, passline, and come are duplicated.

For now, ignore most of the bets in the middle of the table. Even casino dealers recommend that novices start with the other craps bets and explore the middle after they have some experience first.

Craps Rolls And Different Bets

To start, lets bet with the most common bet at the craps table, the ‘passline’ bet.

Your first bet will be on the passline. When a new shooter rolls, it’s called the “come out” roll. If a 7 or 11 hits, everyone wins. If a 2, 3, or 12 hits, everyone loses.

If the shooter rolls any other number, that number becomes the point.

Table boxmen on both sides of the table will then place a marker on the layout designating the point number (located across the top portion of the layout).

Remember, we are still only talking about the outside craps bets.

After the shooter rolls the point, you can place odds (typically double up to 10 times your passline). This is done by placing additional chips directly behind your passline bet. It’s a bet that isn’t even marked on the table because it offers some of the best odds in the casino.

When the shooter rolls the point number again, everyone wins on the passline and the payout includes your odds.

A lot of beginning players balk at doubling their passline. But, it’s important to realize that of all bets you can make, placing odds is the only dead-even bet that exists. You should always place it if you are going to play craps.

Learn to play the outside bets first and then learn more about different types of craps bets once you learn how to play the outside bets first.

The inside bets and the ‘hard ways’ offer some dis-advantageous odds to the player, so unless you’re feeling especially hot, stick to the outside bets first and get some of the best craps odds.
